Donald Trump apparently really meant it when he said his 11-year-old son Barron Trump was having a hard time with Kathy Griffin’s “sick” photo, showing herself holding a bloody mannequin head meant to resemble the president after he’s been beheaded.
Trump family sources told TMZ that Barron, at home with his mother Melania and watching TV Tuesday, saw the photo on the news and thought it really showed his father.
He panicked and screamed “Mommy, Mommy!” As a source told TMZ, “He’s 11. He doesn’t know who Kathy Griffin is and the head she was holding resembled his dad.”
The president blasted Griffin for the photo, which Griffin initially posted on TMZ, only to face universal condemnation, including from left-leaning celebrities, pundits and publications. The president tweeted that the comedian “should be ashamed of herself” and said that his children, “especially” Barron, are having a hard time with this.
Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!
Griffin apologized late Tuesday afternoon, after saying she had finally caught up with social media reaction to the photo. She agreed that the image “is too disturbing,” not funny and had “crossed a line.” She said, “I am sorry. I went too far. I was wrong.”

But her apology may have come too late in certain ways. Law enforcement sources have told TMZ that the Secret Service has launched an investigation into “the circumstances surrounding the photo shoot,” which is protocol even for words or images that depict mock violence against the president.
CNN has also announced it is “evaluating” her role as co-host for its New Year’s Eve broadcast. Various outlets have also reported that the company Squatty Potty on Tuesday suspended its ad campaign featuring the comedian, saying, “We were shocked and disappointed to learn about the image Ms. Griffin shared today. It was deeply inappropriate and runs contrary to the core values our company stands for.”
